Wild September Starts

Facebook Memories this morning reminded me of my crazy start to September six years ago:
"Big scare and disheartening hour or so after publishing my blog this morning. I received notice that my blog had been deleted - not just today's post - the whole blog. Message said I could not post to it any more.
The only thing that I could figure out was that a few days ago I noticed some link had appeared on my site. When I clicked on it to see what it was, the message 'thank you' came up. I googled the name. Apparently it was some pornographic website. Did it/they somehow take over my blogspot and post inappropriate content which got my blog deleted?
Luckily, after near tears, I followed instructions and got my blog site back. So relieved. Moral of story - don't click on something when you don't know what it is."
I remember that day so well. Surprising that it has been six years ago already - 965 blog posts ago.

This first day of September began early with lightning, thunder and heavy rain, already three inches when it was light enough to read the guage during a lull between downpours.

A couple hours later the skies began to clear, looking more like a sunset than 7:30 in the morning. And I started getting ready to go to the grocery store.

When I went out the door to the patio all the cushions from the deck chairs that I had put there to keep dry were knocked over and the rugs I had covered them with were dirty. Then I noticed the patio chairs were not the way I left them. Upon closer examination they too were dirty and covered in, what I think was, dog hair.  I called Bud out to take a look and he said he thought he had heard some noise during the night. We concluded some kind of animal(s) had taken shelter from the rain.

Then I saw a neighbor and her dog coming back from their morning walk. I asked her if she had ever seen stray dogs around and told her my story. She said there had been one a couple months ago, but, "Have you heard?" and proceeded to tell me that a couple of nights ago the neighbor between our two houses had heard a noise, got up to look around and seen two men going between our houses. Also that one of the owners a few houses down had his car broken into and his wallet stolen. Six years to the day and more scary and disheartening news on the first day of September. And I always felt so safe here.😧

So then I got in my car and discovered sopping wet carpet under my feet. No, I didn't leave a window open. There has been a leak on the driver's side since I got the car. The dealer fixed it the first time and Bud has fixed it two or three times with some kind of silicone spray. Guess it needs it again. I stopped at the car wash to vacuum out as much as I could with their heavy duty wet/dry vac.

Then, home to wash the rugs, vacuum the chair cushions, move the patio furniture so I could park my car under there before the next round of rain and to, hopefully, deter stray dogs and/or two legged strays looking for something to steal.
When I got into my car to move it there was a car coming down the street so I waited for it to go by, but it stopped next to me. I figured it was someone wanting to ask directions so I put my window down to see what they wanted and realized it was my son and daughter-in-law coming to see us and ask if we wanted to go to lunch. What a nice surprise!

Catching up with them, good food and lots of laughs -just what I needed to slow down another wild September start.

  1. That's creepy, not knowing who is roaming around your neighborhood! I hope to be commenting more, now that I've stopped babysitting. I've missed my blogging connections.
