With Night Coming Early

The first day of November and the first day of being back on standard time which means nights coming earlier.

"November comes and Novembers goes
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late

And ice in the bucket and frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing

And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

This is the poem Preston sent me by way of greeting the Celtic New Year (Samhain) this morning.
I had not heard this Clyde Watson rhyme before. I love the words and the tree and the colors behind the words - very Novemberish.
As with any new-to-me poet, I go in search of learning more about her. (The first thing I learn is that Clyde is not a man.)
What I found was that she is the award winning author of many children's books illustrated by her sister Wendy. These books were published around the time my two youngest were little but somehow I missed knowing about them.
I'm ever so grateful to Preston for making me aware of this author. I'm already looking forward to finding some of her books and hopefully, reading them to my great grandchildren.
