If You Love Me Let Me Know

One of my favorite singers, a woman I admired very much, died yesterday. Her music was background to my life in the 1970's.

Her album, If You Love Me Let Me Know, came out in 1974. It is one I am certain I owned - and played over and over.

I liked all of her songs, but especially the ballads. My very favorite was on this album.

I Love You, I Honestly Love You

Maybe I hang around here
A little more than I should
We both know I got somewhere else to go
But I got something to tell you
That I never thought I would
But I believe you really ought to know
I love you
I honestly love you
You don't have to answer
I see it in your eyes
Maybe it's better left unsaid
But this is pure and simple
You must realize
That it's coming from my heart and not my head
I love you
I honestly love you
I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable
I'm not trying to make you anything at all
But this feelin doesn't come along every day
And I shouldn't blow my chance
When I got the chance to say
I love you I love you
I honestly love you
If we both were born
In another place in time
This moment might be ending with a kiss
But there you are with yours
And here I am with mine
So I guess we'll just be leaving it at this
I love you
I honestly love you
I honestly love you

A close second was the title song:

If You Love Me Let Me Know

You came when I was happy in your sunshine
I grew to love you more each passing day
Before too long I built my world around you
And I prayed you'd love enough of me to stay

If you love me let me know
If you don't then let me go
I can't take another minute
Of a day without you in it

If you love me let it be
If you don't then set me free
Take the chains away
That keep me loving you

The arms that open wide to hold me closer
The hands that run their fingers through my hair
The smile that says, "Hello, it's good to see you"
Anytime I turn around to find you there

It's this and so much more that makes me love you
What else can I do to make you see
You know you have whatever's mine to give you
But a love affair for one can never be

If you love me let me know
If you don't then let me go
I can't take another minute
Of a day without you in it

If you love me let it be
If you don't then set me free
Take the chains away
That keep me loving you

Take the chains away
That keep me loving you

Not on this album, but third of my favorites was -

Let Me Be There

Wherever you go
Wherever you may wander in your life
Surely you know
I always want to be there
Holding you hand
And standing by to catch you when you fall
Seeing you through
In everything you do
Let me be there in your morning
Let me be there in you night
Let me change whatever's wrong and make it right
Let me take you through that wonderland
That only two can share
All I ask you is let me be there
Watching you grow
And going through the changes in your life
That's how I know
I always want to be there
Whenever you feel you need a friend to lean on, here I am
Whenever you call, you know I'll be there
Let me be there in your morning
Let me be there in you night
Let me change whatever's wrong and make it right
Let me take you through that wonderland
That only two can share
All I ask you is let me be there

It is probably incorrect to categorize these as first, second and third favorites because I loved them all about the same.
