Until Zach Johnson won the Masters in 2007, we really hadn't been aware of the professional golfer on the PGA tour. We became instant fans of the young Iowan who won by two strokes over three other golfers including Tiger Woods. Of course the fact that we have a grandson named Zach Johnson made it even more interesting.
What is amazing is the similarity in looks between the two. Immediately above is a picture of 'our' Zach taken in 2006. Zachary Harris Johnson, the golfer, is about nine and a half years older than grandson, Zachary Michael Johnson. ZHJ was born in Iowa City and grew up in Cedar Rapids. ZMJ was born in Des Moines and grew up in Newton. Both played golf in their younger years.
Our Zach was a football player and swimmer in high school. He was also sports editor of the school newspaper and all-round good guy. Once the other Zach Johnson became better known as a major golfer, ZMJ took a lot of good-natured kidding. He played on a junior college golf team where he had a lot of fun kidding about the other teams going up against Zach Johnson.
I don't know what ZHJ's age is in this picture, but once again, note the resemblance. I haven't tried to do a family tree back on ZMJ's Johnson side; maybe I should. We might discover that these two Zach Johnson's have more in common than their name.
