Books Read In September 2022

Eleven books read this month! And, as you can see, all but one were penned by the same two authors. (Do we still say penned when an actual pen or pencil may not have been used?)

The Collectors, Divine Justice and Hell's Corner were the final three books in David Baldacci's Camel Club series.

Live to Tell and Love You More are the next two books of Lisa Gardner's D.D. Warren series.

What Happened To The Bennetts is Lisa Scottoline's latest offering.  It is a stand alone about a family in witness protection.

Catch Me and Fear Nothing  by Lisa Gardner are the next two titles in her D.D. Warren series. I am really liking this character and her crime solving abilities.

One Good Deed, A Gambling Man and Dream Town are the first three books in David Baldacci's Aloysius Archer series. As I started reading the first one, I was immediately struck by the difference in it and Baldacci's other books. It is the time period. These books take place in the late 40's and early 50's. I can't help but imagine that the author had a lot of fun writing them, getting the flavor of that time just right. I have enjoyed all the books by Baldacci that I have read so far, but I love this series. Dream Town just came out this year so I don't know if there will be more featuring Archer, but I have the feeling there will be. I sure hope so! And while I wait to see if Archer goes on I still have a number of Baldacci titles that I haven't yet read.

Early Autumn BBQ Get Together/Open House .....

..... the invitation read. It could have included "and birthday party" as the host, my grandson Ki, turned 30 just ten days earlier.

Ki moved back nearer to us in July when he took a new job with the Guthrie County Sheriff's Department. He soon started sending me scenes like this one which made me want to see them for myself. So when he sent out invitations to his BBQ Get Together/Open House I was looking forward to attending which we did last Saturday.

From the time we moved back to Mom's farm when he was three, Ki loved being there and loved the cows. Which may account for how much he enjoys seeing the neighbors cows and calves in the field next to his home.

It may not be everyone's dream, but it was always mine - a big old house in the country where the kids could roam and the parent had peace and quiet and views.

I managed to do that when my children were young and now Ki is doing it for himself and his boys.

This is the view on the back side. The BBQ took place here with tables set up in the garage and people sitting outside. It was a good mix of Ki's related family and his new work family. It was nice to hear many of them being so complimentary about our grandson.

I couldn't wait to see some of those views, so we headed up the gravel drive to the top of the hill.

Granddaughter Dominique and her significant other Ian led the way.

I love the old board fence such a neat backdrop for photos.

Ian was being cute with his "aw shucks" country boy imitation.

The weather was ideal except for the wind.

Ki and me near the corral with Ayden in the background.

Great-grandpa Bud with Ayden and Greyson. They are standing on the base of an old silo.

These two great grandsons are growing up so fast!

I thought I had taken more pictures including some of the sheriff and deputies that attended, but I guess not.

Ki told us there are a lot of rocks on the dirt road going south from his place and I really wanted to go hunt rocks, but I was too tired by the time the party started breaking up. Maybe next time.

These are just a few we picked out of the gravel drive.

This is an attempt to show a side view of the bright yellow rock. There is a lavender middle layer along with some unique striations. You may be able to see them by clicking on the photo.

One last picture of this old pine tree along the drive.

It caught my eye because of the way the dead top stood out against the blue sky.

I'm very glad Ki lives closer and that he has found his dream job as well as his country home. Maybe next time we visit there I'll come home with rocks I find along that old dirt road. 💖😍
