Time Oh Time Where Did You Go

There is a little radio station in Stuart, Iowa that I like listening to when I can get it on my car radio. I like it because it plays so many of the old country western tunes. This morning after playing a Don Williams song, the deejay referred to him as "The Gentle Giant". If I'd ever heard that nickname before I had forgotten it. So I came home and googled Don to see why he was called that. According to his website it was "Because of his unique blend of commanding presence and that laid-back, easy style."

I've been a fan of his smooth bass-baritone and easy style for at least thirty-five years. This Best Of, Volume III album is one that I have. If I had to choose a favorite from this one it would probably be I Believe In You. "But I believe in love. I believe in music. I believe in magic. I believe in you."

What I also learned was that Don was a member of the Pozo-Seco Singers. Their recording of Time in 1966 was so perfect.

Time

Some people run, some people crawl,
Some people don't even move at all
Some roads lead forward some roads lead back
Some roads are bathed in light, some wrapped in fearful black

Time oh time where did you go
Time oh good, good time where did you go

Some people never get, some never give
Some people never die and some never live
Some folks treat me mean, some treat me kind
Most folks just go their way, don't pay me any mind

Time oh time where did you go
Time oh good, good time where did you go

Sometimes I'm satisfied, sometimes I'm not
Sometimes my face is cold, sometimes it's hot
Sunset I laugh, sunrise I cry
At midnight I'm in between and wondering why

Time oh time where did you go
Time oh good good time where did you go

Time oh time where did you go
Time oh good good time where did you go

It was when Williams left  Pozo-Seco (I always liked saying that name) in 1971 that he began his solo career. This Greatest Hits Volume IV is another one I have. Louisiana Saturday Night is on it. That's one song I still have to crank up the volume on.

"Well, you get down the fiddle and you get down the bow
Kick off your shoes and you throw 'em on the floor
Dance in the kitchen 'til the morning light,
Louisiana Saturday night!"

There was a time I did go dancing every Saturday night. Time oh time, where did you go?
